Saturday 28th of July 2012

T

oday the Aussies and I again frequented Fanari beach for their last time as they leave on Monday. It seemed especially hot today, one of the hottest days I have experienced since being here so I spent much of my time swimming and attempted to say out of the sun in fear of aggravating my sunburn further.

It’s Saturday night and the town seems to be buzzing! The aussies and I finished off the day with a few cocktails at our usual spot.

Later in the evening, I again went to Katomeri with my friend for more drinks. I love riding on his motorbike. After being in the stifiling heat the cool air on the motorbike is invigorating. Tonight there was a blood red quarter moon, he told me this means it will be hot a day tomorrow, based on today’s temperatures I don’t doubt that!

At Precious bar we were joined by the rest of the islands youth and 3 mojitos later I was having a very good night. It seems that tipsy Tina is slightly more confident with Greek. My friend was attempting to teach me Greek although now that I think about it, I can’t remember what he told me! Mental note; write down any lessons given! Our conversations were again interesting and there is much more I want to say about this- but cant.

There were two Australian girls at the bar tonight. I picked they were Australian before it was confirmed based on their dancing. I made a bet with my friend that I thought they were from Perth and if they were he would have to buy me another drink. He asked me why I thought they were from Perth, but I didn’t know how to explain Cashed-up-bogan so I told him it was just a guess! They were in fact from Melbourne, but he bought the drinks any way! Actually, pause for thought here, Greek boys do not let girls pay for anything… anything! So all of you Aussie boys out there, take note, chivalry is not dead, its just in another country so I suggest that you step up and start letting women walk through doors first and how about a bit of door opening to go with it?

The 4:30am ride home was even better than the first as the humidity had finally started to drop a little and the air carried a slight chill. Beautiful.
